A group of Maritime teens spread good cheer and Christmas spirit on the streets of Halifax Wednesday.

Fourteen-year-old Michael Webber, his sister, and some friends handed out stockings to the homeless for the second year in a row.

“Last year we went to my dad’s work, and me and my sister saw some homeless people and it really touched us in our hearts and we delivered some food and gloves to them. This year, we wanted to go bigger than that,” says Webber.

In the days leading up to Christmas, the group collected donations of money, food, gifts, clothing, and even a replacement set of guitar strings.

“We just wanted to give them something special for Christmas, from us, to let them know that we care, and that there are people out there that do care about them,” says Webber.

Those on the receiving end of these gifts were moved by the children’s kindness.

“The fact that children want to get involved and try to help make a difference, makes your faith in humanity restored,” says Jessica.

“I think it’s great, it gives the children a little more insight into the way life really is, they can actually see and learn some compassion,” says another. “He’s a smart kid, very smart, I think that boy is going to go places.”

The young people plan to do it all again next year, when they hope to hand out even more stockings.
