WEST CHEZZETCOOK, N.S. -- The Acadian House Museum says it will transform an idle historic building into a centre that will showcase local artists and include interpretive exhibits.
The renovations will be made over the next year and are expected to generate higher tourist traffic -- including more bus tours and visits by cruise ship passengers -- that will also benefit local businesses and attractions, organizers said in a news release.
Built in the 1850s, the museum on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore displays local Acadian artifacts. Staff dressed in period attire put on weekly demonstrations of traditional activities such as rug hooking, broom making, yarn carding and spinning.
The new centre and other improvements have received over $125,000 in funding from various levels of government.
