An Alberta man has been sentenced to four years in prison for the murder of a Cape Breton man more than two years ago.

Kenzie Beaton was stabbed during an argument at a hotel in Jasper on Jan. 28, 2012. The 22-year-old had moved to Alberta from Mabou, N.S. two years before his death.

Beaton had been visiting the ski resort town with some friends for the weekend when a noise complaint led to an altercation at the hotel.

When officers arrived, a friend was applying pressure to Beaton's stab wound, but he was unconscious.

He was first taken to Seton General Hospital in Jasper and later airlifted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, where he died.

Police say Beaton didn’t know the man who stabbed him, but they had been staying in rooms with an adjoining door.

Cody Kyle Jenson, 23, of Edmonton was initially charged with second-degree murder in Beaton’s death but the charge was later reduced to manslaughter.
