HALIFAX - The annual ‘Do it for Dads Walk Run’ took place at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax on Sunday.

The race was also held in 12 other Canadian cities with participants coming together for a morning of fitness and fun to raise money for prostate cancer research.

Some teams came out in costumes and added an extra bit of spunk to the race by singing and chanting.

Participant Richard Loughery says he participated in the run because his dad, who is now 85 years old, beat prostate cancer about 12 years ago. He encourages all men to get regular checkups.

“I want to be around for my kids,” says Loughery. “My dad’s still here for me and his grandkids and that’s huge.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to affect Canadian men.

Funds raised from the event will go to support research to uncover better diagnostic and treatment options and to provide support services for those living with the disease.
