COLE HARBOUR, N.S. -- A Nova Scotia firefighter is back on the ground after spending his weekend sitting atop a ladder truck in support of muscular dystrophy research.

This weekend marked the 27th annual Don Crook Memorial Ladder-a-thon in Cole Harbour.  The event is hosted by Westphal Cole Harbour Fire Fighters to raise funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Lt. Mark Burgess sat in the bucket of a ladder truck for 50 hours over the weekend, from noon on Friday until 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Burgess made it through the weekend with support from his fellow firefighters, who sent up buckets of supplies filled with necessities including food, water, and sunscreen.

Dozens of volunteers pitch in to help with the annual event, which has raised more than $725,000 to date.

This year’s goal was to raise another $20,000.
