After seven months of construction and painting, the Halifax Art Boat launched Saturday afternoon.

The floating art project was built by a team of 200 volunteers and will be used as a visual and performance arts space.

The city of Halifax supported the project by donating plywood, tools, paint and other supplies.

“This will be something that’s available to professional artists as well as the general public,” says Halifax Community Arts Facilitator, Kate MacLennan.

MacLennan says she hopes the boat will be part of art projects across the province.
