RCMP have confirmed a body recovered in Bras d’Or Lake is that of a 31-year-old Cape Breton fisherman who went missing Sunday morning.

Two fishermen from Eskasoni, N.S. were checking their lobster traps around 10 a.m. when their vessel overturned.

One of the men tried to swim to a small island nearby, while the other climbed on top of the boat and tried to flag down some help ashore.

Police were called to the scene just after noon and the man on the boat was rescued.

Emergency crews spent part of the day combing the area for the second man.

A helicopter crew spotted the man's body 15 metres offshore around 3:20 p.m.

His name has not been released.
