Another rash of fires in the Sydney area has proven to be especially disturbing for one of the victims.
Dwayne Dalton is still recovering from serious burns to 70% of his body after a house fire four years ago. He was distraught to discover someone had torched his truck in his driveway, which he depended on to go to daily medical appointments.
“After three and a half years in the hospital, and four and a half years recuperating from one fire, the last thing you want to see are flames when looking out your window,” Dalton told CTV News.
Another vehicle was set ablaze just around the corner, with flames so large they damaged the home’s siding.
“The heat intensity they said, was about five minutes away from destroying the whole house,” says fire victim Pam Lesnick.
Police suspect the fires are connected to a rash of arson cases in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality a couple of weeks ago.
They are urging anyone with information to come forward and share.
In the meantime, residents are deeply-concerned about the situation.
“It’s been seven vehicle fires now in three weeks and a couple of homes. If they don’t find this person, someone’s going to end up dying,” says Dalton. “Take it from me, being burned if the worst thing you could imagine.”
