A Cape Breton Regional Police officer who's already suspended pending the outcome of one criminal matter, has been charged with a separate criminal offence.

Const. Wade Everett Lavin is facing a charge of uttering a threat to cause death or bodily harm.

Police have released few details about the incident, but say it is not related to police duties.

Const. Lavin is already facing separate charges, including identity fraud.

"Const. Lavin was originally suspended with pay in October of 2015 for an occurrence unrelated to this file,” said Const. Shannon Kerr, spokesperson for Cape Breton Regional Police. “He remains suspended pending the outcomes of two court proceedings."

The 16-year veteran of the force is due to appear in Sydney provincial court on Oct. 18.
