Four years after a woman from Chester Basin, N.S., was murdered, police have laid charges.

RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crimes Unit have charged a 22-year-old Chester Basin man with first-degree murder in the 2012 homicide of Victoria Brauns-Buckley.

At about 1 p.m. on Friday, officers arrested John “Jack” Buckley along Highway 103 near Chester.

“The investigation has always been active. Since the charge was withdrawn in December of 2012 and following that, our investigators have uncovered enough evidence to lay a charge of first degree murder today,” says Nova Scotia RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

Police say Victoria Brauns-Buckley was found dead in her home on Borgels Point Road in Chester Basin, N.S., on March 2, 2012.

In December 2012, the crown dropped a charge of second-degree murder against John “Jack” Buckley, saying there wasn’t enough evidence to convict.

He was released from custody until he was re-arrested today.

Buckley will appear in Bridgewater provincial court on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
