Residents of a Cole Harbour, N.S. neighbourhood are frustrated after their community mailboxes were vandalized with offensive words for the third time in less than a month.

“Haven’t they got anything better to do?” asked Violet Robertson as she picked up her mail Wednesday. “It’s public property. Can’t they just leave it alone?”

“It’s a nuisance. It’s obscene and it creates expense and work for people and it doesn’t look good in our neighbourhood,” said resident Ed Conrad.

Residents say the first mailbox was vandalized a few weeks ago. Another mailbox was targeted two weeks ago and new graffiti turned up on a second mailbox last weekend.

“When you see this kind of language posted, it is not appropriate,” said resident Will Young. “There is no place for that in this neighbourhood. We have a safe area here and it’s a very nice area.”

Residents had expressed concerns that the looming Canada Post lockout would keep crews from cleaning the mailboxes.

However, Canada Post says the graffiti was removed Wednesday evening, after the story aired on CTV Atlantic.
