A 31-year-old P.E.I. native is dead and another is in hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Tryon, P.E.I., Saturday night.

East Prince RCMP say they were called to the crash on Highway 1 just before midnight.

Fire crews and ambulances attended the scene. The 26-year-old male driver was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was blocked for several hours while RCMP investigated. Traffic was re-routed during that time.

Police say speed, alcohol and failure to use seatbelts are believed to have played a role in the collision.

Blood samples were collected at the scene to determine the driver’s blood alcohol level.

RCMP say the 31-year-old was originally from P.E.I., but had been living in Nova Scotia.

The matter remains under investigation.
