NEW YORK -- Sidney Crosby's torrid scoring streak has earned him NHL first star of the week honours.

The Pittsburgh captain had five goals and three assists in three games last week, extending his point streak to 10 games.

Crosby's week was highlighted by his ninth career hat trick, with an assist, in Pittsburgh's 6-5 win over Ottawa on Tuesday.

He had a goal and two assists in a 3-2 overtime win over Florida on Saturday, giving him 902 career points. He reached the 900-point mark in his 677th career game. Only 10 players in NHL history have reached that milestone quicker.

Ottawa defenceman Erik Karlsson was named second star with seven assists in three games.

Florida centre Vincent Trocheck took third-star honours with three goals and three assists in three games.
