Toronto police say a 24-year-old Dartmouth man is facing eight charges in a human trafficking investigation that began last April.

Police allege that Shondell Lucas-Johnson persuaded a 17-year-old girl to travel with him from Halifax to Toronto to work in a spa and provide sexual services to clients.

Police say Johnson destroyed the girls phone to isolate her from family and friends. Johnson is also accused of assaulting the girl.

The girl managed to escape and contact police.

Police say Johnson fled to Halifax where he was arrested on Wednesday.

Johnson is charged with forcible confinement, trafficking a person under the age of 18 and several other charges.

Police say they are concerned there may be other alleged victims.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
