SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland resumes today in New Brunswick.

He is charged in the 2011 death of his businessman father, Richard Oland.

Dennis Oland has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

A forensic identification officer testified last week that no blood or DNA from Dennis Oland was found on his father's body or at the crime scene.

Sgt. Mark Smith told the jury that the scene of Oland's murder was one of the bloodiest he had ever encountered.

Defence lawyer Gary Miller questioned him on the crime scene and the likelihood that the killer would have blood on them.

Under questioning, Smith said no blood was found on many items introduced as evidence.

Richard Oland's body was found in a pool of blood in his Saint John office on July 7, 2011.
