A 51-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with the death of a man in Riviere-Verte, N.B. earlier this year.

The RCMP responded to a Soucy Road home shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. The body of 70-year-old Roger Parent was found inside the home.

Sylvain Bard was arrested on Feb. 17 and charged with first-degree murder in Parent’s death.

The Edmundston man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on June 13.

Bard has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.

In addition to his sentence, Bard will be required to submit a DNA sample to the National DNA Data Bank and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition for life.
