An elderly driver has been charged after a man was struck in a marked crosswalk in the Halifax area.

Police responded to the collision in Lower Sackville shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

They say William Roy Murphy was crossing Glendale Avenue at Raymond Drive when he was hit by a car.

The 34-year-old was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Police say the 81-year-old female driver of the car was not injured.

She faces a charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk under the Motor Vehicle Act.

If convicted, she faces a fine of $687.41 and four points will be assigned to her record.
