The YMCA in Halifax received a generous donation Thursday night from a family that has been connected with the organization for years.

Guests gathered at a downtown hotel as the Lindsay family donated a whopping $3 million for the organization’s ‘Centre of Community’ project.

The organization is returning the favour by naming the building after past director, the late John Lindsay Senior.

"My father believed in the Y, where he was a volunteer, a member, an ambassador and a philanthropist for over 40 years. He didn't miss an exercise class on Monday, Wednesday or Friday,” says his son, John Lindsay Junior.

Officials say the donation is the largest in YMCA Halifax history.
