A fire has completely destroyed a house in a rural area just northwest of Fredericton.

The fire broke out on Dorn Ridge Road near Burtts Corner around 2:40 p.m. Thursday. The Keswick Valley fire department called in six other departments for additional trucks and firefighters.

While extinguishing the blaze, a power line fell on one of the fire trucks, which slowed operations.

A couple and their teenage son managed to escape safely, but they lost their home and all of their belongings.

In the meantime, the Canadian Red Cross is helping the family out.

There is no word yet on a cause.
