The former chief administrative officer of the West Hants Municipality in Nova Scotia is facing charges after irregularities were spotted in the municipality’s financial records.

The municipality contacted Windsor Rural RCMP in June 2014; the RCMP launched an investigation after an audit was conducted.

Police say their nine-month investigation led to the arrest of former CAO Cheryl Chislett on Tuesday.

The 55-year-old West Hants woman has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and breach of public trust. She was released on a promise to appear in Windsor provincial court on April 28.
