SHEFFIELD, N.B. – RCMP N.B. say the remains of a body have been found on an island in the Sheffield area.  Foul play has not yet been ruled out.

Oromocto RCMP say they responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The human remains were spotted by people walking on the island near McGowans Corner.

The group was exploring the island on foot to prepare for the upcoming hunting season, RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Chantal Farrah said Sunday.

Forensic experts and the Coroner were called in to assist with the investigation.  Police say the remains appear to have been there a long time.

``At first glance the investigators believed the remains had been there for some time,'' says Cpl. Farrah. ``However, the forensic autopsy should help give us a time frame, hopefully.''

An autopsy is scheduled for early in the week.
