The town of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., was abuzz when residents learned they would be receiving a free concert from Grammy award-winning artist Meghan Trainor.

But when some people learned they wouldn’t be able to get a ticket, they were left less than thrilled.

About 6,000 tickets were made available for free after the town won a contest sponsored by Air Miles Canada. The tickets were distributed locally and online.

But now, some of those tickets are turning up for sale, with prices as high as $100 or more.

“I'm upset with the fact that it came to this,” said resident Dawn Chisholm. “That people are just greedy and out to make a buck off of something that really should have been a great event and should have been open to everybody.”

For those who did get their hands on tickets, the night will be one to remember. Businesses say they have felt the impact for the last three weeks.

“After the announcement was made, probably within an hour or two, we received a substantial amount of phone calls and we were sold out within an hour,” said hotel manager James Tobin.

“For a community our size, I mean this is huge,” said radio station owner Bob MacEachern. “This is an international artist, a Grammy Award winner. You don't get those kind of artists coming through small town Canada.”

Meghan Trainor will perform Thursday night.
