A Nova Scotia wheelchair user is getting help from the online community as he searches for a place to live.

Will Harvey moved from Windsor, N.S. to Kentville, N.S. last month to work, but he’s been homeless ever since, struggling to find an affordable home that can accommodate his wheelchair.

Harvey has been carrying his belongings around in a single suitcase, warming up at coffee shops or churches before starting his job at a local call centre at 4 p.m.

When he gets off work after midnight, he heads to the local police station to sleep or, if he’s lucky, to a refuge arranged by the local Inn from the Cold shelter program.

But Harvey said he is trying to stay positive through the ordeal.

“It’s just a decision you make,” Harvey told CTV Atlantic on Tuesday.

“You wake up and you decide it’s a good day, you decide you're happy, you're great.”

Harvey lost his leg after being struck by a car 10 years ago, and has been using a wheelchair ever since.

He wants to help others by working as an addictions counsellor, and is scheduled to start community college in the fall, but first he needs to find a home that is both affordable and accessible.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Harvey to help him in his search. Money raised could help a willing landlord purchase construction materials to build ramps, widen doors and provide appropriate shower and bath accommodations.

The goal is to raise $5,000. More than $300 had been raised of 12:30 p.m. Friday.
