Gas prices are set to drop across the region.

Nova Scotia is invoking its interrupter clause for the second time in two months, which means prices are expected to tumble at midnight.

A drop is also expected in New Brunswick this week.

“There’s nothing better than that,” says one Halifax motorist.

“I think it’s great that it goes down,” says another. “It will be cheaper to move the goods and services around the city, and maybe the groceries will go down.”

Prices aren’t just dropping in the Maritimes; drivers in Toronto are also expecting a similar break at the pumps, giving motorists their cheapest ride in two years.

Experts say the downward trend is the result of a glut in the U.S. and a lack of global demand.

American forecasters are suggesting this is the most rapid drop in gas prices in the U.S. in years, with prices down in all but two states.

New Brunswick’s Energy and Utilities Board hasn’t indicated there will be a change in prices prior to the usual weekly change, which is set Thursday at midnight.

However, the expectation is for prices to drop there as well.

“It would be nice if it kept going down,” says one New Brunswick resident. “It’s hard to say how long it will stay down, I guess.”
