It’s business as usual at the Halifax Central Library after the building was evacuated due to a suspicious package.

Halifax Regional Police responded to the library on Spring Garden Road at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The building was evacuated as a precaution as police searched the area with a K9 unit.

Police have not said what the package was, but they say it was deemed safe by the explosive disposal unit and will be examined further in the coming days.

Police cleared the scene shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday.

The library reopened to the public Thursday morning.

The incident remains under investigation.
