A 26-year-old Halifax man is facing charges after a woman was allegedly assaulted and forcibly confined in the hallway of her apartment building.

Police responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence in the 1000 block of Barrington Street around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, police say a man had a woman restrained in the hallway of the apartment building, and that he had to be physically removed by the officers.

The woman told police that the man had offered to walk her home from the Blowers Street area. She said he then forced his way into her apartment building and restrained her in the hallway.

She managed to call police during the incident. She was not injured.

The suspect was arrested and held in custody overnight.

Craig John McPhee is facing charges of break and enter, assault and forcible confinement.
