A 33-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl are facing extortion charges after they allegedly threatened a man who had entered into a relationship with the teen.

Halifax Regional Police say the 22-year-old man reported on May 25 that he had received threatening messages from a man he didn’t know after meeting a young woman, whom he believed to be an adult.

Police say the man began to receive the threatening messages and demands for money from the man and the teen after having a brief relationship with the girl.

Police arrested the man and the teen, both from Halifax, for extortion on July 21.

The man was released on a promise to appear in Halifax provincial court on Aug. 30.

The teen was released on a promise to appear in Halifax provincial youth court on Aug. 18.
