Halifax Regional Police are investigating an alleged assault involving a young girl outside a Dartmouth elementary school on Thursday.

According to police, a 10-year-old girl was walking home from John McNeil Elementary around 2:45 pm when a masked man jumped out of the bushes near the baseball field and grabbed her arm.

She was able to break free, but not before the man hit her in the stomach. The girl ran away and told her babysitter what happened, who then called police.

The girl was not physically injured but was checked out by EHS as a precaution.

The suspect is described as a man wearing a black hoodie, face mask with eye and mouth holes, blue jeans, black gloves and black shoes.

Police say the man was seen walking from the school toward Highfield Park Drive. Officers and the K9 unit were not able to locate the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
