Police are investigating after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a cab driver in Halifax.

The 39-year-old woman told police she and a friend hailed a cab on Lower Water Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Police say she had arrived at her destination on Parkland Drive when the cab driver reached out and grabbed her buttocks as she was leaving the vehicle.

Police say she told the cab driver his actions were inappropriate. He apologized, refused payment and quickly left the area.

The driver is described as a white man in his 30s with blond hair, a round face and a medium build. He spoke English with an eastern European accent. Police did not provide a description of the cab.
