Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying several suspects after thousands of dollars’ worth of counterfeit bills were used at businesses in the Halifax area.

There have been at least 25 reported cases of someone using fake $50 American bills to pay for items at Halifax-area shops since Sept. 10.

Police say businesses all over the region were targeted, including grocery stores and shops at the Halifax Shopping Centre.

Investigators believe the incidents are all connected and they are looking to identify three suspects.

One suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with short brown hair and a sleeve tattoo on his right arm.

Police allege he paid for merchandise with a large number of counterfeit bills at the Halifax Shopping Centre on Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. They say he left the area in a white Mercedes SUV. He is also suspected of paying for merchandise with counterfeit bills at the Halifax Shopping Centre on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

Investigators are also looking for two black women in their 20s. They allege the women used counterfeit bills at the Queen Street Sobeys on Sept. 13 at 8 p.m.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact police.
