Police in Nova Scotia say a man has been charged in relation to an alleged debit card fraud after turning himself in.

RCMP say a 56-year-old Dartmouth man contacted police on Wednesday after seeing his picture broadcasted by a local TV station.

Police had circulated the surveillance image in relation to an alleged incident reported on May 25 at a drive-through ATM at a bank on the 300 block of Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.

Police say a man using that ATM said the machine appeared to take his card. He entered the bank to get help but when he returned, the card was gone and money had been taken from his account.

The Dartmouth man suspected in the case was released from custody after he was arrested at his Pleasant Street residence and taken to police headquarters for questioning.

He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on September 8 to face charges of theft under $5,000 and theft of a credit card.
