Halifax police are warning residents about a high-risk sex offender being released from prison today.

Police say 47-year-old John Patrick Neve has a criminal history involving violent sexual offences against intimate partners and children.

He has been professionally assessed as a high risk to reoffend in a sexual manner.

“This information is provided to alert members of the public of his release into the community,” say police in a statement released Monday. “Any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct will not be tolerated.”

As part of his release, Neve has been placed on a number of strict conditions regarding his interaction with women and children under the age of 16.

Neve is described as a white man with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is five-foot-eleven and weighs 186 pounds.

Police say he plans to live in the Halifax area following his release from custody.
