Halifax’s top cop met with the city’s police commission Thursday at a meeting open to the public to talk about missing evidence.

That evidence included drugs and cash.

The Commission asked for the special meeting, following last week’s release of an explosive internal audit.

During the meeting, the Chief Jean-Michel Blais discussed what the audit revealed, while commissioners asked for some clarification.

Dominating the meeting was the fact the audit began in May 2015, with commissioners having no idea about it.

Many of the commissioners were angry about finding out about it through media reports.

They say they felt detached from the process, with some saying they’re not even sure what the board’s mandate is.

“There should have been a mechanism,” said Police Commission Chair Russell Walker. “That will be corrected.”
