A 20-year-old woman is in hospital after she suffered a medical emergency while hiking in Hubley, N.S.

Police say the woman was hiking with a group from the Environmental Education Centre Tuesday afternoon when she went into medical distress.

Air search and rescue crews were called to the scene and airlifted the woman to the Shearwater Canadian Forces Base. She was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

The remaining hikers were able to return to their canoes and hiked out to their pickup point.

There is no word on the woman’s condition at this time.
