There were some tense moments in a Dartmouth neighborhood Thursday night over what turned out to be a BB gun.

Around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to Clement Street in Dartmouth after getting reports of a man carrying a gun.

A large police presence arrived on the scene, including the SWAT team.

Officers surrounded a home and sealed off the street.

“Members of our emergency response team arrived on the scene and set up an inner perimeter. We had negotiators arrive here and after a period of time, we made contact with a subject inside the Clement Street address,” says Staff Sergeant Lindsay Hernden. “He was removed from the home, and in the post investigation, we’ve learned that this subject was carrying a replica handgun through the neighborhood. It was a bad decision on his part that lead to a rather large police response.”

Police say the 19 year old suspect will not be charged and are reminding the public that realistic-looking weapons should not be toted around in public.
