PENNIAC, N.B. -- RCMP are investigating after two hikers discovered human remains in a tent in the community of Penniac, just north of Fredericton.

Cpl. Chantal Farrah says the discovery was made around 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.

She says the tent was in a thickly wooded area near the Penniac bridge.

Farrah says investigators believe the remains had been there for quite some time, and will use personal effects found in the tent and DNA from bones in an effort to identify the person.

She says investigators have not determined a cause of death.
