Hundreds of visitors gathered at Shubie Park in Dartmouth on Saturday for the second-annual Open Forest Day.

The event was created to promote wildlife, biodiversity and the role that natural resources play in the province's economy, the environment, and people's health.

"We are thrilled to be part of this great event to help more people see the wonders of the forest, its value, diversity, and opportunities," said Jane Barker of the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute.

There was face painting, canoe and kayak rentals and other activities for all ages.
