A 40-year-old Fredericton man is facing impaired driving charges in connection with a collision that sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.

Police and emergency crews responded to the traffic circle at Cliffe Street and Two Nations Crossing around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after an SUV collided with a motorcycle.

A man and a woman who had been on the motorcycle were taken to hospital, where they remain with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital and later released.

Robert Drew Shannon has been charged with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one count of breach of a judge’s undertaking and one count of driving while suspended.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and additional charges could be laid.
