A Fredericton family is making an emotional plea for their missing loved one to come home.

Steven Robbins was last seen around midnight on Monday leaving the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, where he was a patient.

His family fears he may be a danger to himself.

Robbins does have past psychological issues, but the fact he’s made no attempt to contact them is what’s most alarming, his family says.

“He has always, even at his worst, always called,” says his sister, Christine Gore.

On Friday, the hospital declined to comment on Robbins’ disappearance.

He was admitted there last week, to be treated for pneumonia, severe dehydration and psychological issues.

His sisters say they last saw him on Monday night, a few hours before he approached a nurse’s station to say he was leaving.

“They advised against it, and out the door he went. And nobody in our family has heard anything from him,” Gore said.

When in hospital, Robbins told his sisters he wanted to go to the psychological ward, but the family says he was made to stay in the emergency department until his medical issues had been dealt with.

A shortage of beds kept him there, his family says.

“He was in the hallways a lot. The majority of the time we saw him he was in the hallways,” Gore said.

Robbins is 6’2”, weighs 150 pounds, has short graying hair and wears glasses.

He has no cell phone or money with him.

His sister spoke to CTV News with a message for him.

“Even if you don’t want to come home, that’s fine,” Gore said.

“At least call and let somebody know and say ‘Hi, I’m safe, don’t worry about me.”

His mother, Joyce Robbins, asked him to call to “let somebody know if you’re alive.”

“We do love you, and we won’t be mad, because we know you’re going through a bad experience right now,” she said.
