CHARLOTTETOWN -- A recount has confirmed that a Liberal newcomer to politics in Prince Edward Island defeated the leader of the Progressive Conservative party in the provincial election.
Elections P.E.I. says Charlottetown lawyer Jordan Brown received 1,054 votes, down two votes from election night on May 4.
The total for Tory Leader Rob Lantz was unchanged at 1,032.
Lantz requested the recount after he failed to win the riding of Charlottetown-Brighton.
A recount last week in Vernon River-Stratford resulted in a tie between Liberal Alan McIsaac and Conservative Mary Ellen McInnis.
A coin toss gave McIsaac the seat.
With the latest recount, the Liberals hold 18 seats in the legislature, the Tories have eight seats and the Green party has one.
Lantz plans to continue as leader of his party despite not holding a seat in the legislature.
