A man suspected of stealing cash from a donation bucket in the Halifax area has turned himself in to police.

Police say a donation bucket was stolen from the lobby of a hardware store on Radcliffe Drive in Clayton Park Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say the suspect grabbed the bucket and fled the store into a wooded area.

Police and a K9 unit attempted to contain the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

With the help of tips from the public, police were able to identify the suspect.

He turned himself in to Halifax Regional Police around 4 p.m. Sunday.

Police say most of the stolen money was also returned.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with theft and possession under $5,000 in connection with the incident.
