A Halifax man is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly waved a fake handgun at people while driving through the city.
Police responded to the area of Gottingen and Falkland streets around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday after an anonymous caller reported a man in a minivan was waving what appeared to be a handgun at people.
Officers searched the area but failed to locate the vehicle.
Less than an hour later, police received another call that a man in a minivan was waving around a handgun in the area of Evans Avenue and Berts Drive in Fairview.
While police searched the area, another 911 call came in that an armed man was inside an apartment building on Dawn Street.
Police located the man inside the building, arrested him without incident, and seized a handgun which turned out to be a fake.
They also spotted a minivan matching the description provided by witnesses behind the apartment building.
Police say 54-year-old John Phillip Longaphy will appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, using an imitation of a firearm in the commission of an offence, uttering death threats and breach of court order.
