A New Brunswick man has been charged in connection with a murder in Geary, just south of Fredericton.

Harry Edward Charlie McKenna, 47, of Geary is charged with first-degree murder in the case.

The charge comes after police responded to a 911 call at a home on Branch Road at approximately 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived on the scene, they found the body of 61-year-old Kirk Blair.

Police arrested McKenna at the scene without incident, but a second suspect had fled the scene.

Police issued a release Tuesday afternoon saying they were looking for a 24-year-old man from the Halifax suburb of Spryfield in connection with the incident.

Police arrested the man in Burton at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday.

However, he has since been released without charges.

Forensic experts spent Wednesday combing the scene for evidence, enlisting the help of a K9 unit on adjacent properties.

Neighbours were reluctant to comment on the incident, but one woman told CTV News she was scared that a murder could happen in the typically-quiet neighbourhood.

Another woman said she heard what she thought was a gunshot, but police aren’t saying how the victim died.

“The cause of death is under investigation and we’re not releasing any details about the exact manner,” says Farrah.

Police say the suspects and the victim were known to one another but wouldn’t expand on their relationship or say why they were in the home.

McKenna is due back in court on May 16.
