Halifax police say a man wanted in connection with a break and enter has been arrested in Dartmouth.

Nicco Alexander Smith is facing charges of break and enter, possession of stolen goods under $5,000 and four breaches of previously imposed court orders.

The charges come after police responded to a home on Connor Lane in Halifax at 5:40 a.m. on Jan. 1. They say a man broke the front door of the home and then fled on foot with a stolen cellphone.

Officers searched the area but failed to locate the suspect. The resident was not injured and police say the incident wasn’t random.

Police issued a warrant for Smith’s arrest on Jan 16 and issued a news release, asking for the public’s help in locating Smith, on Feb. 27.

Officers arrested the 24-year-old Dartmouth man without incident at a residence on Churchill Court on Tuesday.

Smith was held in custody overnight and is due to appear in Halifax provincial court on Wednesday.
