BIRCHTOWN, N.S. -- Police are investigating a head-on collision that killed two people in Nova Scotia.

They say a 72-year-old man from Shelburne and an 80-year-old woman from Shelburne died in the accident on Highway 103 in Shelburne County on Sunday.

RCMP say the victims were driving the cars when the accident occurred at about 3:20 p.m.

There were no other passengers in the vehicles.

Police were not releasing the victims' names.

The Mounties closed a portion of the highway to investigate the collision.
