HALIFAX - Organizers are hoping the winds pick up for sailors making their way from the U.S. to Halifax as part of the Marblehead race.

They say it was slow going yesterday, with competitors down to about five knots last evening.

It's expected that some of the boats will arrive in Halifax late today if the winds pick up as forecast.

An American boat out of Connecticut was leading in the ocean race, with a group of six or seven other boats several kilometres behind.

That includes the first Canadian boat, Helm's Deep, from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax.

More than 60 entries crossed the start line in Massachusetts on Sunday, heading out to the Gulf of Maine.
