Our Maritimer of the Month has been sharing her musical talents with choirs and audiences in Truro for the past quarter century.

Ruthann Brown directs a dedicated group of retirees that call themselves the Happy Harmonies. There are more than 40 women in the choir and they practice twice a week at church halls and in Ruthann’s house.

The group visits local nursing homes once or twice a month to share their songs.

Members say Ruthann is a natural leader.

“She’s just an all-around caring individual, for the residents of the nursing home, as well as for us. She says, if I keep your minds active, you’ll stay young,” says Shirley Griffin, choir member.

“This is a place where they can come and sing and feel free and happy and not have to worry about a wrong note here and there,” says Ruthann. “Then we just go and take it out to the nursing homes, which hopefully brings them some happiness.”

Congratulations to Ruthann Brown, our Maritimer of the Month.

If you know someone deserving of our Maritimer of the Month award, we want to hear about it.

It doesn’t matter how old they are, the nature of the good deed they’ve done, or what part of the region they live in — we want your ideas!
