The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo kicks off on Thursday, and like every year music will be a big part of the show.

Conductor Patricia Tupper has been involved with the Tattoo’s adult choir since it was formed in 1983. The next year she became the director of the children's choir, then took over conducting the adult choir in 2011.

The event is entirely volunteer-driven, so those close to Tupper say the choir wouldn’t be held without her.

"(Tupper) is a very kind person,” says choir co-ordinator Carol Grimmitt. “She keeps us all in check. She gets the best sound out of us all. Very keen on our words and making sure that we sing the best to our abilities."

Tupper says it's amazing how quickly 35 years have passed.

"The joy of coming back every year and seeing the friends that we've created over the years is wonderful, too, knowing you're coming back to family, it doesn't feel like that long," she says

After more than three decades of dedication, it was time to sing Tupper’s praises.

Congratulations to Patricia Tupper, our Maritimer of the Month.
