NWBC Seniors Radio has been broadcasting easy listening music since 1987, reaching over 300,000 homes across Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

The Northwood Broadcasting Club is entirely operated by volunteers like Dale and Sue MacKeigan.

For several years, the couple has ensured seniors throughout the Maritimes have the opportunity to hear music from their era.

Dale is a broadcaster and his wife Sue takes phone requests.

“Oh, I like it on the phone, talking to the people,” says Sue.

The couple, who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, are always there to make sure the radio waves are filled with the sounds of the 1950s and 1960s for the seniors who depend on it.

They take time out of their holidays, volunteering on Christmas and New Year’s Day, and even brave snowstorms to ensure music makes it to air.

“He and Sue come in in bad weather. There was 13, I think, Wednesdays this year when it snowed and they were in here broadcasting,” says show host Bosco Harkin.

Dale even made it behind the mic during his recent battle with cancer, garnering high praise from the other volunteers.

“He just come home from the hospital and he's supposed to be resting at home but, he'll be in here doing the show,” says NWBC president Jim Francis.

“I enjoy it, I guess. I just love it,” says Dale.

Congratulations to Dale and Sue MacKeigan, our Maritimers of the Week!
