Ruth Richardson spends much of her time volunteering at Fredericton Junction’s Tri-County Complex.

The rec centre opened in 2009 and Ruth has been committed to volunteering her time since the beginning.

“Ruth is involved in everything at the complex,” says general manager Steve Ewart.

Steve says Ruth volunteers to ensure activities like minor hockey and bowling go off without a hitch. In addition, she also spends her time organizing and catering for dinners and other special events year-round, all in support of the non-profit facility.

“It’s extremely important that we have different things going on 12 months of the year and Ruth is always there to help me,” says Steve.

The retired nurse says community is important to her, and so is staying active within it.

“Wasn't going to be a couch potato, so I decided to come down here and do more volunteering and I’m just as busy as I want to be,” says Ruth. “It’s so rewarding after you've done one of these functions and see what you've accomplished, it’s just fun.”

“Ruth is like my second mom,” says Steve. “I think the world of her, she makes my job a lot easier.”

Ruth says she is just one of many who help make the Tri-County Complex a success.

“It just doesn't take one volunteer, it takes many, many volunteers to run this place,” says Ruth.

Congratulations to Ruth Richardson, our Maritimer of the Week!
